Guide to POGACSing
This is a guide on how you can go about
helping us to get games released.
Targeting
Picking a target is a very important part
of getting a game released. There are some considerations
you should take first.
You will need to contact the developer
first & not the publisher, make sure you know who the
developer is, because the name that sounds more familiar
is more likely to be the publisher. Take these games for
instance
Worms on
PC/Amiga - developed by Team17,
published by Ocean
Tomb Raider on
everything - developed by Core Design,
published by Edios Interactive
James Pond 2 Robocod
on everything - developed by Millennium
Interactive, published by U.S.
Gold.
You see, you've got to check carefully,
as contacting the publishers first is probably not a good
idea, unless you go through the developer first. To find
out the developer from the publisher look for text that
says something like published by, distributed by, etc.
After determining who you should contact
you next need to ask yourself some logical questions
about the game you want to pursue.
Is this game still available
first hand in the shops? Make sure it's not
available as either a standalone
game or part of a compilation.
Is the platform the game was
released on, now obsolete?
How recent is the game, a mid-80s
Spectrum game is a lot easier to
get released that a hit SNES
game that came out 2 years ago.
How big is the developer company,
companies like Nintendo & Sega
are huge and very unwilling to participate in
something like POGACS. So don't expect to see
them gladly agree to release Mario & Sonic to
us, or at least not till we already a reasonable
backing of games. You'd be best of targeting
smaller developers & nearly extincted
developers if you can find them. Companies that
are going to or have gone under, will probably
agree if you can trace them.
